Ask any realtor, the bathroom is
the second most important room in the house consider
when attempting to add value, the first being the
kitchen. It used to be that a bathroom would
contain just a shower and/or bath, a sink, towel rail
and toilet. Things have moved on a lot since then,
with the bathroom spawning its own entire industry.
Now there are bathroom suites, furniture, built in wall
units, wet rooms and other renovations waiting for the
attentions, and finances of wannabe DIY’ers or home
improvers.
Chances are that once the
kitchen is done, or if it needs no work, the bathroom is
where you head next. It is often the smallest, but
most used room in the house, especially for the average
family. Before rushing into any renovation
projects, time should be taken to consider who uses the
particular bathroom and what their needs are. Plan
out the space, preferably on paper and consider what you
want where and the scale of the changes you want to
make. This way you can have a much clearer idea of
what you want and what you need to achieve your aims.
Planning ahead can also save headaches later by
preventing you from shopping on a whim and buying
unsuitable or unusable furniture. Families will
have different needs to a bachelor so lifestyle should
be considered too when thinking about upgrading.
Children will need things within reach, and as few
things to break or hurt themselves with as possible.
A couple of someone on their own doesn’t need to
consider any of those things and can concentrate on the
design or their own needs.

Manufacturers and bathroom
companies have woken up to the idea that we all have
different ideas and needs when it comes to design and
necessity. There has been a raft of innovation and
improvement in both the quality and quantity of designs
and furniture available increasing the choice
inestimably. No longer do we have to have plain
white bathroom furniture, or just a choice of built in
wall units or basins. There is now a massive
choice of furniture, fixtures and fittings that can
adorn any bathroom with pride, and achieve most if not
all design aims.
There is now more freedom than
ever to make even the most eclectic dream a reality.
If you can’t buy a stock bathroom, then have a custom
one. As long as a design is physically possible or
technically feasible then there is nothing preventing
you from having exactly what you want, for a price of
course.
That’s what any home project comes
down to in the end. Not the limits of the space,
or your taste or imagination, but whether you can afford
it or not. Price can be the dream breaker, or
dream maker. The wilder and more original the
idea, the more money it is bound to cost. Just
don’t be fooled into thinking a customer bathroom design
is unattainable, they aren’t always as expensive as you
would imagine.
