If budget isn’t an issue, and
you want to remodel a kitchen, then custom kitchen
cabinets are the way to go. They are the best way
to turn your room into something amazing, while adding
practicality and value. Custom kitchens can be
ideal for special needs or odd shaped rooms. Not
all of us enjoy a nice square room to prepare our meals
in. Having custom builds doesn’t always cost a
fortune, but they are definitely more expensive than
off-the-shelf solutions. But that is offset by the
quality and the fact that they are designed around the
room, and your needs.
Before embarking on an extensive
and potentially expensive project, you need to have a
clear idea of what you’re looking for. Combine
what you like with what you need with what you can
afford. This isn’t always an easy task because
compromise is inevitable. It isn’t always
something you can do yourself either. There are so
many permutations and options to choose from that it’s
highly unlikely you will discover them all.
Consulting a professional can open up completely new
areas of investigation and often allow you to get
exactly what you want with the least compromise.

Decide well in advance on the
style, look and color scheme of the room. By doing
this before starting anything you can avoid last minute
changes and expense. It’s also an advantage during
the project as you have a clear picture in your mind
about how you want the room to look. You can
convey this to the designer who will be making that
vision a reality.
Apart from how the room will
look, it is also wise to consider how the room is used
before planning your custom kitchen. It will
influence the design quite a bit and it’s much better to
get design considerations out of the way as early as
possible. Is the kitchen a thoroughfare to
somewhere else? Do you eat there or have a
separate dining room? Are there children?
Anyone with special needs? Apart from these major
concerns, what about the smaller ones? Things like
adding lifestyle options such as wine coolers, built in
chopping areas, double ovens, wok rings, TV’s and other
things. It may be a good idea to build a wish list
before meeting the designer so they can incorporate as
many as possible into the room. Some are obviously
going to be more practical than others, but if you have
these ideas in mind before the kitchen is designed
everyone should get most of what they want.
Having custom kitchen cabinets,
and the kitchen in general installed takes longer than a
traditional installation. Plan to lose the use of
the room for at least a few days depending on the size
and scope of the room and the changes being made.
It may mean eating out or getting takeaways for a while.
The process takes longer because
a lot more care has to be taken to make the cabinets
fit. The end result though will be well worth the
effort.
