Kitchen cabinet prices can vary
massively depending on the type of kitchen you want, the
material used and the finish required. The sky is
the limit when it comes to design choices. They
will be mainly limited by the space, budget and the way
you use the room.
Stock kitchens are mass produced
items that fit the majority of standard room sizes.
They can be made from all kinds of materials from
softwood, hardwood or composites. The quality of
kitchen you get from stock depends on how much you
spend, like most things. This option is best
suited for those on a tight budget or developers that
plan on flipping the property.
Semi-custom cabinets are a step
up from the stock and offer a much more tailored finish.
They can be specified much better than stock, and will
be molded to fit the space. These are still made
in a factory, but offer much more freedom with design
and fitting than a stock kitchen.

Custom cabinets are the peak of
kitchen design. These will be completely custom
made to your exact design and measurements. A
designer or architect will check the room and help you
build a solution that fits the room and your lifestyle.
They will typically be made in a workshop by carpenters
or craftsmen. They offer the best materials, the
best finish and the best end product. They are
also the most expensive, but you do get what you paid
for.
When selecting one of these
kitchens, the main consideration is obviously budget.
I’m sure we would all have a custom made kitchen if we
could afford it, I know I would. The best way to
decide, other than budget is to take a look around.
Most larger DIY stores and furniture stores will have a
kitchen section. Take a look around and see what
the stock produced kitchens offer. Quality has
increased exponentially over the past years so they are
nowhere near as bad as they used to be. The larger
or higher quality stores may also offer the semi custom
options too. There are larger chains that even
offer a free design service, where they either send
someone round to measure the room or ask you to provide
the measurements. They can then walk you through
the design options and help you achieve exactly what you
want within your budget.
With both of these options,
don’t forget to factor in fitting costs. This can
often be as much if not more than the cost of the
kitchen itself.
Choosing a custom fitted cabinet
is just as easy. Most craftsmen will be only too
happy to show you round their workshop and examples of
their work. In these situations someone will visit
your home and take the measurements for you. Not
because they doubt your abilities, but because if any of
them are wrong, there is a lot of work involved in
putting things right.
Custom kitchen cabinet prices
are obviously higher than buying stock, but is you can
afford it, is well worth the expenditure.
