Ready to Assemble Cabinets

Bedroom Cabinets, Custom Cabinets, Cabinets, Nightstand

Ready to assemble cabinets, or RTA have been around for years and have been steadily improving quality and workmanship as they evolved.  As the popularity of home improvement exploded, so did the number of manufacturers building products for the market.  The number of styles and brands available is growing steadily enough that no matter what your taste there should be something in the market to suit.

The kitchen is the single most expensive room in the house to upgrade or remodel.  The average kitchen will cost upwards of $25,000 to do completely and the cost of cabinets will cost at least $10,000 of that.

A decent ready-made cabinet will fit almost any regular sized room.  We would all like a custom built kitchen with all the latest and greatest appliances, but they are often out of reach of the more modest budgets.  Therefore the manufactures ready to assemble cabinets are an ideal solution.  They are also significantly cheaper than having them custom made.  A decent, quality kitchen of RTA cabinets can cost as little as $2,500.  This puts them in reach of most renovation budgets.  Saving money while not compromising quality is a great way of either saving money overall, or giving yourself more to spend on other things like appliances or decor.

The key to a good RTA cabinet is how it’s put together.  At the lower end of the scale they are constructed using wood glue to cheap screws.  These aren’t very durable and can split quite easily, especially when exposed to moisture of heat.  Better quality units will use cam-locks, where a locking mechanism is fastened between two pieces of wood and screwed tight.  These are very effective at holding units together and aren’t as susceptible to the elements as glue.  If the cabinets work themselves loose, a quick turn of a screwdriver will tighten them right back up again.

Ready to assemble cabinets are also much easier, and quicker to assemble.  This is good news if you’re doing the job yourself or having someone to do it for you.  It’s either less labor for you or your contractors and either way will save time and money.  They also have the added benefit of being easy to replace if mistakes are made in measuring or installation.  There is normally no lead time in acquiring a replacement cabinet, so will be pretty easy to get more, or replacement ones.

They are also ideal for property developers as you can achieve a decent finish with minimal outlay.  The accessibility and ease of use of RTA furniture lends itself well to tight deadlines and budgets.  They offer predictability when creating a scope of works and estimating the cost of flipping any property.  Even though they may be cheap, the right quality units will look quality enough to not compromise a design or the finish.

Whatever your needs, a carefully chosen ready to assemble cabinet can be an effective way or remodeling a kitchen on a budget.  They may be cheap compared to a custom kitchen, but they don’t have to look it.
