Make a Statement With Vanities and Custom
Vanities
Any successful property developer will tell
you how important the bathroom is when it
comes to selling a house. It is the bathroom
that can showcase the entire theme of the
house, whether it is a family living style,
a modern and up-market look, or classic
contemporary. One of the key elements of the
bathroom is the vanity unit as this one
piece of furniture that can be used to
accentuate a theme, or be useful in a purely
functional extent.
The first thing to consider when choosing a
vanity unit is your size requirement. It is
possible to have a small vanity custom made
to take up no more than half a meter of wall
space. This tiny unit can still house a few
bottles of shampoo and some spare soap in a
small cupboard space underneath a miniscule
sink, and for some people this is a perfect
option for a guest bathroom or similar. On
the other side of the vanity equation it is
possible to order an antique replica of the
type of vanity your grandmother used to
have, in solid wood with a marble or granite
bench top complete with turned feet and
extensive carving on the door panels.
Once you have determined your size
requirement you must then decide the
function of the vanity unit. In most cases
vanities will include one or two bathroom
sinks, taps or mixers, cupboards and/or
drawers for storage, or a trolley style
where plush towels can be presented in full
view of the bathroom user.
For the budget conscious buyer there are is
a lovely range of vanities available through
your local plumbing or hardware store, both
readymade and in kitset form. These units
come in a range of standard sizes and are
traditionally made with a custom wood or
veneer finish and a Formica or laminate top.
These units can be sold as a complete unit
with a plastic finished sink and stainless
steel taps, or as a cupboard only option
that can be used to compliment your existing
sink and taps. Vanity tops too are a way of
dressing up a kitset vanity unit, as even
the most inexpensive of cupboard option can
be enhanced with a tile, granite or similar
custom top.
One of the prime advantages of either custom
or kitset vanities are that they can be
adapted to fit to different bathroom
layouts. It is possible to get a plain
rectangle style or you can get a corner or
“L” shaped unit to increase the possible
storage space in a relatively smaller room.
As storage is an important consideration for
most house buyers any opportunity to
increase the amount of storage available in
the bathroom will be appreciated by any
potential buyers.
Whatever the reason you want to buy a vanity
it is possible to find one that will fit
size, function and budget requirements. Take
the time to shop around in a department
store if you are unsure of what you are
wanting and browse through some of the more
recent home improvement magazines for even
more inspiration. If you remember the
bathroom’s purpose as being a showcase for
the theme of the house as well as being
useful and decorative, then you will be able
to make your decision about vanities with
confidence.
