Cabinet & Woodworking Plans
There are many things that are close to
an Americans heart. We love our football, cars, families and
our guns. Maybe it’s because our history was built on them,
maybe it’s because they’re fun to own and use, or maybe it’s
just because we need one because everyone else has one.
Whatever the reason, the majority of us store our guns in
cupboards, drawers, under pillows or anywhere out of sight,
or small hands. Owning a gun cabinet is a much better way to
store weapons or display them, whichever we see fit.
If you’re the practical type,
gun cabinet plans are an ideal way to get one cheap, and
to exercise a creative wont a little while creating
something useful, and hopefully, pleasing to the eye. Wooden
gun cabinets can either be plain, utilitarian piece or
decorative conversation pieces. Whatever side of the fence
you sit on, there is no disputing the fact that something as
dear to our hearts as a gun needs a proper place to live. If
you’re lucky enough to have a study or den, there are few
pieces of furniture as masculine as a wooden gun cabinet.
Before getting started, you need to
decide if you want to display your irons or keep them secure
and out of the grasp of small hands. This decision will
choose the design and construction of the cabinet, so it’s
important to tackle this one head on. If you’re into your
pistols then a drawer gun cabinet will probably suit you
best. If you’re more into rifles, then a taller unit is
needed. A couple of drawers will also be useful to store
ammunition, spares and cleaning equipment. These can either
form part of the design or hide behind the doors.
Most good
woodworking or DIY
websites sell gun cabinet plans pretty cheap. For a few
dollars you can get a complete blueprint of a design and a
tools and materials list from which to work. This cuts out
most of the planning and allows you to get right down to the
good stuff. If you buy the plan from a woodworking and
hardware website, there might even be a shopping list on the
page where you can order the materials at the same time. How
easy does it get?
If you’re anything like me, planning
and preparation bore you. You want to get to the good stuff,
which is why I like buying plans and materials from the same
place and getting them shipped to me. That way I can get my
hands dirty right away. I like my furniture plain and
simple, but there’s nothing stopping you buying or making
moldings or elegant finishes to your cabinet. It’s
down to style really. I do have a rotating gun rack and
subtle lighting though, as it makes a real difference to the
practicality, and aesthetics of the piece.
If you want somewhere to store your
guns, or want to get into woodworking and think it’s the
place to start, check out the gun cabinet plans. It’s the
simplest, most straightforward way of building something
useful and exercising that practical urge.
